A WHOLE NEW WORLD explores the artist transitioning to a new country, what it was like being the only one with a funny accent and the impact this has had on her life today.

INFORMATION

In her first solo exhibition Leeanne describes her personal childhood struggles and how arriving into adulthood doesn’t calm her emotions or fears.

The production of art permits the artist to internally reconcile her self-image. This unique experience allows the artist the freedom to continue self - discovery and to construct and deconstruct her identity.

Symbolism is used to emphasize the past, present activities, dreams, hopes and future goals also.

Symbolism in art helps the artist delve into facets of self that is indescribable solely with words.

An example of this are the birds used by Leeanne to symbolize struggle and despair. The large spiral – shaped eyes on animals and people represent development, growth and new beginnings as well as assisting the artist to feel connected to her Irish culture (Celtic spiral).
