More Than Reproduction seeks to provide a platform for women in printmaking to have their voice heard and thrive.

INFORMATION

More Than Reproduction is a collective of Sydney-based emerging creatives with a passion for all things printmaking. Our aim is to celebrate and promote female-identifying artists, curators and creatives, with a particular focus on printmaking practices and themes of femininity, womanhood and equality. We strongly believe in equal representation and opportunity. More Than Reproduction seeks to provide a platform for women in printmaking to have their voice heard and thrive. Our co- founders - directors - curators, Jennifer Brady, Millie Mitchell and Sarah Rose, each have a background in printmaking and a passion for equality in the arts. Through monthly artist features and interviews, our collective has been growing over the past year and has featured a diverse array of print methodologies, conceptual premises, experimentation, and ideologies.

Edition One marks More Than Reproductions 1 year anniversary as an operating collective, and overlaps with International Women's Day. Accordingly, this exhibition hosts exclusively female-identifying artists seeks to facilitate the diversity of contemporary printmaking practice - a medium that is often male-dominated. Edition One is a multifarious collection of etching, linocut, lithography, and serigraphy; corroborating the versatility of print-related media and its function in both focused, and cross-disciplinary practices. Whilst nuancing femininity, each artist differs in pictorial exploration, resulting in juxtaposed imageries and substrates, to exemplify a diverse sensibility towards printmaking methodologies and applications; the diversity of diversity.

More Than Reproduction originated as an exhibition of the same name at AD Space in March 2018. The exhibition featured the work of female-identifying print makers from UNSW Art & Design. We were fortunate enough to participate in events for Sydney Art Month’s Art at Night series (Paddington and Woollahra Precinct), hosting live screen and block printing demonstrations. We also partnered with Reclaim the Night Sydney’s Annual Art Fundraiser at Down/Under space in October 2019. During this event, we live screen-printed t-shirts, as an act of advocacy and fundraising. A full list of featured More Than Reproduction artists can be found at www.morethanreproduction.com
