INFORMATION

My work explores the whimsical, fantastical and surreal. Through the traditional practice of millinery I combine old world nostalgia with a quirky irreverence. Dainty and romantic, or bold and challenging, I use visual metaphors to portray a poetic vision, with a hint of the ridiculous.

I explore the beauty of winged creatures, using line, shape and curves to express the subtly of movement, fragility and elegance present in nature. I draw inspiration from a subtle suggestion of line, or an expression of colour. I am fascinated by the vibrant and diverse colours, textures and shapes found in the natural world; it is an infinite source of inspiration.

Recently I expanded my practice beyond the confines of a hat into other mediums. Using skills and techniques acquired from millinery and hat making materials such as felts and feathers, I have made the natural progression into sculpture and began experimenting with animation.
