Celebrating 20 years of supporting design-led craft practices, Gaffa Creative Precinct presents ASSEMBLY. An activated exhibition and retail event shaped by a curated cohort of contemporary makers working across craft and design. With object-based works for acquisition and live demonstrations - the exhibition celebrates the processes that underpin contemporary craft practice and creative exchange.
Featuring works designed to be lived with, used and shared - the exhibition explores how crafted objects shape connection, hospitality and everyday rituals. By inviting these objects into our spaces, we also welcome the stories, skills and creative communities behind them.
As a precinct, we have always resisted disciplinary boundaries, believing that meaningful cultural production occurs through dialogue between practices and can flourish beyond the white cube. The exhibition acknowledges Gaffa's history and evolution as a creative hub.
Luke Clifton & Susan Chen
Based in Marrickville, Object & Ceramic Design is a collaborative ceramic project exploring the space between art, craft and design. Working with chromatically stained earthen bodies, Luke Clifton and Susan Chen embrace small-batch, hands-on production to create objects that are simple, joyful and made to last. Their pieces are designed as future heirlooms - equally at home in special occasions and everyday rituals.

Cassian Sim
Founded by Cassian Sim, ULUROOM is an Australian design studio exploring space, material and colour through furniture made for living. Working with honest, durable materials including premium 304 stainless steel, the studio creates pieces that are architectural yet approachable, sculptural yet functional.
For ULUROOM, assembly is central to the experience of design. Through intuitive, tool-free construction, flat-packed components become architectural forms, transforming assembly from a logistical necessity into a tactile interaction between user and object.

Luke Parkinson
Tasmanian woodturner Luke Parkinson began his practice in 2020, developing a distinctive approach through traditional techniques and contemporary design. Working primarily with locally sourced specialty Tasmanian timbers, Luke creates beautifully considered objects for the home, including plant propagation stations and bud vases.
His practice combines an appreciation for natural materials with a commitment to thoughtful, environmentally conscious design.

Charlotte Guy
Founded by architect and product designer Charlotte Guy, AURUM Atelier creates high-quality, locally made objects for the home. Working across materials and creative processes, Charlotte is interested in making enduring pieces that resist fast fashion and consumer culture.
Rooted in the landscapes of rural Victoria, AURUM’s objects are designed as lasting companions to everyday life — bringing a sense of permanence, stability and considered design into the home.

Natalie Popovski
Austin Flowers is the ceramic alter ego of visual artist Natalie Popovski, transforming familiar household objects into playful pop sculptures and functional vessels.
Drawing on Australiana, nostalgia and humour, Natalie reimagines objects such as Saxa salt shakers and VB bottles through clay, creating works that are both instantly recognisable and wonderfully unexpected. Her practice brings a tongue-in-cheek perspective to the everyday objects that surround us.

Ruby Powell-Hughes
Ruby Powell-Hughes is a brand strategist and creative director whose personal practice centres around print, publishing and illustration. Through her micro studio, Always Friends ©, Ruby creates original artworks, prints, zines, books and small stationery objects for everyday use.
Her practice moves fluidly between commercial design and personal expression, with print and publishing providing a space for experimentation, storytelling and playful visual communication.

Tanya Reinli
Based on Gadigal land in Sydney, multidisciplinary artist Tanya Reinli works across sculpture, painting and glass. After completing a Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours at Sydney College of the Arts, Tanya founded Upcycled Glassware with a focus on transforming discarded glass bottles into functional artworks.
Sustainability sits at the heart of her practice, where materials once destined for landfill are reclaimed, reshaped and given a new purpose.

Tom Morton
Founded by architect-turned-designer Tom Morton, Bootleg Studio explores the potential of the small objects that make up our spaces. Since 2020, the studio has created architectural hardware and domestic objects that move beyond utility to become moments of visual expression.
Drawing from organic architecture, pop art and handmade craft, Bootleg Studio approaches wall hooks, handles, shelving and other everyday objects with curiosity and playfulness. Every piece is proudly designed and made in Australia.

Ella Nguyen
ALEO is an Australian design studio creating bold, characterful objects for the home. Founded by Ella Nguyen, the studio approaches design with a user-focused mindset, informed by Ella’s background in software and consulting.
From the modular Folia Object - inspired by a childhood fruit from Vietnam and the quatrefoil windows of Florence — to the colourful Vesper Touch Lamp, ALEO creates objects designed to evolve with their surroundings. Each piece brings function, flexibility and personality to smaller spaces.

Oliver Coats
Sydney-based architect Oliver Coats brings more than 25 years of architectural experience to Xigglie, a design studio exploring structure, material efficiency and simple construction at a smaller scale.
Xigglie’s plant stands use precisely cut, interlocking components that slot together without screws, glue or tools. Designed for local manufacture, the flat-packed pieces transform into playful, sculptural forms that combine architectural problem-solving with colour, movement and personality.

Carly Buteux & Joe Dodd
Public Holiday is a ceramic studio run by clay-making duo Carly Buteux and Joe Dodd. Working from their small studio on Biripi land on the Mid-North Coast of NSW, the pair create functional ceramic vessels with an emphasis on simplicity, pattern and colour.
Every piece is made entirely by hand, celebrating the natural qualities of stoneware clay and the small variations that make handmade objects unique. Their work invites us to slow down and pay attention to the everyday rituals that shape our lives.

Gareth Martin
A_STUDIO, led by Creative Director Gareth Martin, is driven by curiosity, individuality and creative expression through materials, form and function.
Through CURIO, A_STUDIO explores scented candles and table objects designed to be remixed, rearranged and transformed. Modular pieces can be mixed, matched and built upon over time, creating an evolving relationship between object and user. The result is a playful collision of art, function and personal expression.

Hollie Kent
Authete is a small batch experimental ceramic studio focusing on bringing art into the everyday. Hand made by Hollie in Newcastle on Wonnarua Land. The studio's philosophy believes that the most common objects found in our daily rituals are also the pieces which have the greatest opportunity to impact our lives as they are the most frequently touched.
Therefore the more common, the more deserving of attention. Avid believers in using the good china everyday, they say our most used items should bring us joy and add visual flavour to our world. These small joys accumulate to a life well lived and you don’t have to settle for anything less than a life brimming with functional art.

Jem Nockles
Jem Nockles is a Sydney-based glass artisan, and the hands and mind behind Noc Noc Workshop.
Her artistic practice explores traditional kiln-forming techniques that trace back to ancient glassmaking traditions around 2000 BCE. While these techniques were largely abandoned after the development of glass blowing, kiln forming has a unique ability to play with the tension between precise, geometric lines and the organic fluidity inherent to molten glass.
Her work spans functional art, homewares & lighting design. Defined by plump, tactile surfaces and high-gloss finishes, Noc Noc pieces are made slowly as modern heirlooms.
